Our Journey

Our CTO, Dr. Joshua Neil, is one of the pioneers in applying statistical modeling and machine learning to hunt down threats in enterprise networks, with 25 years of experience in enterprise threat detection, beginning in 2000 at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In 2014, Josh and Alpha Level CEO, Mike Pozmantier, moved research into practice by licensing Pathscan, a network anomaly detection system invented by Josh and team, to Ernst and Young (EY). That experience led to a number of key insights, but one lesson stood out: anomaly detection is great at catching attacks that slip past everything else - but on its own, creates way too many false positives. Moving on from EY to Microsoft and Securonix, Josh began working on the other side of the threat detection equation, handling the alerts created by noisy threat detectors.

 

This deep understanding of the threat detection lifecycle coupled with the promise of the unrealized potential of anomaly detection, led Josh and Mike to found Alpha Level in late 2023. We are a threat detection company built on the idea that the real magic happens when you combine known attack behavior with the anomaly detection that uncovers the unknown. Our mission? To produce low noise threat detection without missing the breach.
